Design and Looks
The handset stands at 112.5x62.2x14 mm and weighs about 155 grams. The phone features a brushed aluminum back with the rubber surrounding it. The best part of the touch screen on this phone which occupies the largest area on the phone is that not only its 'clickable' but also 'touchable'.
Apart from the touch screen on the front the phone supports the call and end keys, the menu key and the earpiece and the loudspeaker grill at the top. The left side of the phone comprises of the microUSB port and one of the convenience key whereas the right side of the handset features the volume rocker, one more convenience key and the 3.5mm audio jack.
The phone sports a touch optimized music player which comes along with decent functionality and looks. The music player is able to sort out the files based on artist, genre and album. The player can play in the background too and it does support the equalizer presets. The video player on the phone works in both landscape and the portrait mode. The disappointing feature of it is the unavailability of DivX or Xvid support on the video player.
The phone is equipped with a 3.15 Mega pixel autofocus camera and a LED flash. The interface though is not that simple and requires getting used to the settings. There are no shortcuts on the screen which allow any easy access to the camera. The picture quality of the BlackBerry Storm 9500 is well below the average performance in the 3MP league. The detail on the images shot are poor and below average.
The communication on this Phone is still the best as it's with any BlackBerry device. The phone is capable of 3G, quad band GSM handset with HSDPA .GPRS and EDGE are on hand to back the 3G connection up and v2.0 Bluetooth plus USB connectivity.
The battery on the phone is removable and offers a quoted 360 hours standby and over 5 hours of talk time. The phone is also equipped with GPS receiver which has A-GPS support. The software for navigation includes the BlackBerry Maps which comes pre-installed with the phone.
Overall the phone does not look to be the next device against the iPhone but the company has not shied in releasing their touch model in awake of the competition posed by various manufacturers around the world. The phone would definitely appeal to the BlackBerry fans wanting a touch support on their phone.
