Design and Looks
The phone stands at 107x60x15.5mm and weighs about 111g. The phone has rubberized edges which give it a strong grip in the palm. The phone also has rounded edges giving it a nice sleeker design.
The keyboard on this phone is smaller than the 8800 and features smaller keys. The keys perform quite well and have an excellent response making typing very easy and smooth. The phone has trackball navigation and does a great job in selection and browsing through large documents too.
The display on the phone is a 2.5incher with 320x240 pixels which is capable of displaying 65k colors. The screen is bright and displays all the colours with pretty good vibrance and texture. The screen is capable of adjusting its brightness levels depending upon the ambient lighting situations in an area.
Under the hood the phone comes with a 32 bit Intel XScale PXA272 312 Mhz processor which does a good job. There are no lags with the interface and the applications tend to launch smoothly without any lags.
On the multimedia front the BlackBerry Curve 8800 sports a 2 megapixel camera which does an average job and is good enough for just taking pictures needed to sent across email or MMS.
The Curve 8300 is a quad band phone (800/850/1800/1900MHz), which makes it operable anywhere around the world.
There is no HSDPA , no Wi-Fi nor GPS on board the Curve. The phone does support Bluetooth communication including Bluetooth audio. The handset offers microSD card compatibility and makes it available underneath the battery.
There is support for media plack back on the phone and on the business side the phone offers POP3 email and a Brick Breaker game. The media player supports MP4/WMV/H.263/H.264 and also MP3/WAV/eAAC+/WMA on board.
The battery on the curve gives a healthy standby of 408 hours and a good talk time of 4 hours. Overall the phone is an attractive consumer level BlackBerry phone but sure lacks critical features such as Wi-Fi and HSDPA which may lose out some buyers.
