Design and Looks
The phone stands at 113x74.5x22m and weighs about 139g. The phone is sleek but wider to hold and takes a while gripping the phone single handed. The surface has a good grip and fits in perfectly in your palm. The phone is a corporate device works in both left and right hands. The navigation on the phone can be done using the scroll wheel. The keyboard on the 7290 is a fully fledged QWERTY keyboard and has a great response. The keys are nicely spaced and are a treat for even fast users. The keys are flat surfaced and are quite convenient.
The display on the phone is a PDA style 240x160 pixel display which is able to display 65000 colors with clear icons and text. The screen on the device is much smaller than most of the BlackBerry displays. The left spine of the device contains the minijack for the wired headset and the USB port for charging the device and also for the sync with the PC. There is IR port also available on top of the phone.
The memory on the phone comprises of 32MB of flash plus 4MB of SRAM. The phone also includes a calendar, a memo pad, a task list, an alarm clock , vibrate mode and has support for polyphonic tones too.
The phone lacks any multimedia features that one can think of as it's primarily a corporate phone. There is only a picture viewer included on the device; there is no MP3 player or camera on the phone.
On the communication front the phone is a quad band device making it usable around the world. It features a good signal reception in all areas. The sound quality is not that great when you hold the phone to your ears. But with a wired headset it turns out to be far better and probably was designed with this in mind. The phone can also do good on the Bluetooth wireless headset.
Battery life on the phone is average and does a pretty good job. It give about 4 hours of talk time and about 210 hours of standby time.
Overall the phone offers strong email, calendar and contact management and yes that's all about it. It does not fancy anything more and is just built for purpose to serve the corporate jungle. The phone is definitely not a right choice for fashion geeks or casual users.
